GEOGRAPHY / NATIVE AMERICAN PROJECTS:
The students spent the first few weeks of school reviewing the global grid system, refreshing their memory on land features, and analyzing various maps using their Social Studies textbooks. In addition, students read about the first Native American tribes to settle the North American continent and learned how each group adapted to live in various regions given the environmental constraints of the region. In an effort to establish greater depth of knowledge in the areas of geography and Native American tribes, the students are being asked to apply their knowledge and skills on the following project. The following three questions will guide their learning:
The class will be divided into several groups with 3-4 students in each group. Each group will be assigned a Native American tribe. Each group member is responsible to individually research his/her assigned tribe, and become an expert. Then, the group will come together and discuss their findings. Next, your group will create a museum display including visual aids and information. You will teach this information to other groups as well as visit and learn about other tribes.
1. How did Native American groups make a living and use resources to adapt to different environments in North America?
2. How did the land / environment affect Native American groups?
3. How and why did Native American cultural regions differ?
The following project was introduced on WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 28. Students were given an opportunity to see the project, ask questions, and share in the decision making with regards to their groups. Please use the following information to further understand the project details.
